Do You Have Pet Injury Insurance?

Picture this…You and your family, including the family dog are heading to the park for a picnic. You start thinking how good a barbeque sandwich would taste with the potato salad. You are just pulling away from the drive thru window when a blue haired lady in a red convertible whips in front of you. You slam on the brakes, but to no avail, you bump into her anyway. You were almost stopped so the damage to the car is very minimal, but Skip slides off the back seat and injures his leg. The dog gets a purple cast on his broken leg and we head home to eat our barbeque and potato salad. I am so glad I had pet injury included on my auto policy.

You may have pet injury insurance and not even realize it. If you don’t have the pet coverage, it could be added to your auto policy. I went online to research pet coverage and was surprised at the number of auto insurance carriers that offer this product. I found that with a Progressive policy, pet injury is automatically included under the collision coverage. Hanover offers a pet injury endorsement and according to the brochure there is no deductible. Chubb has announced that they plan to add Pet injury coverage to personal auto policies soon. Pet Injury insurance will pay a certain amount toward vet bills in the event of an accident, if your cat or dog sustains injuries or worse while being a passenger in your vehicle.

Traveling with your pet can be a very enjoyable experience. Whether you are going to the dog park or on a family vacation… Accidents can and do happen. Why not feel secure knowing that you have a plan to cover your beloved companion while you are on the road. Each company that I have researched offers different amounts of coverage. If pet injury insurance is something that appeals to you, call your auto agent for more information and the availability of coverage.
